SLIP JOINTS

A slip joint is a mechanical construction allowing extension and compression in a linear structure. Slip joints can be designed to allow continuous relative motion of two components or it can allow an adjustment from one temporarily fixed position to another. Examples of the latter are tripods, hiking poles, or similar telescoping device.

SLAB WALLS

As an adjunct to Jacques thread on double brick I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me about the concrete slab wall buildings and why we don’t see much of that style in residential building? At least it seems that way in WA.

SLAB

A concrete slab is a common structural element of modern buildings. Horizontal slabs of steel reinforced concrete, typically between 100 and 500 millimeters thick, are most often used to construct floors and ceilings, while thinner slabs are also used for exterior paving.

TENSILE OF SHEAR STRESSES

Mathematically, there are only two types of internal load because tensile and compressive stress may be regarded as the positive and negative versions of the same type of normal loading.

However, in mechanical design, the response of components to the two conditions can be so different that it is better, and safer, to regard them as separate types.

EXPANSION JOINTS

An expansion joint or movement joint is an assembly designed to safely absorb the heat-induced expansion and contraction of various construction materials, to absorb vibration, to hold certain parts together, or to allow movement due to ground settlement or earthquakes. They are commonly found between sections of sidewalks, bridges, railway tracks, piping systems, ships, and other structures.

CORROSIVE CEMENT

Since reinforced concrete will be subject to a corrosion process that ultimately leads to a total failure of the structure, corrosion monitoring is essential. In the first stage, aggressive elements penetrate into the structure. On reaching the rebars, high concentrations of those elements attack the passive layer of hydrated iron oxide that protects the rebar against corrosion. Rust begins to form which eventually leads to structural failure. Early diagnosis and monitoring of seemingly healthy concrete cover allows pre-emptive corrosion control measures to reduce unwanted risks.

HOLY WEEK

Reflects a time for about sacrifice made by Jesus Christ to give salvation to pay for our sins and take our mansard on that cross.

Also take advantage of these vacation days to share with family and friends, and have a good momenton though of course not easy with the tasks of the university which can not neglect. That is why it’s a wild week, including meditation, laughter and work :(  hahahaha
